Acella Construction celebrates 15th anniversary, continues commitment to “Build Better”

For Dave Dirubbo, founder and president of Acella Construction Corporation (www.acellaconstruction.com), 2018 marks 15 years since he and his brother Anthony first started Acella Construction, known today as a leader in construction management throughout greater Boston.
From ground-up construction and new additions to complex interior renovations and tenant build-outs, Acella’s mission is to Build Better buildings, relationships and communities one project at a time.
The firm is widely recognized for understanding and fulfilling each client’s unique vision, advocacy and leadership in education, healthcare, workspace design, and cultural and historic projects, and contributing time, talent and resources to causes and community.
Acella Construction began in 2003 in a 200-square foot office space in Norwell; in the early days, their market was not-for-profits and some interesting commercial work. One of their first clients in 2003 was Boston Beer Works and Sam Adams. In the first year of their business, they managed to post $2 million in revenues. They worked their niche (non-profits, and universities/schools); Dirubbo remembers that much of their initial success came from working with companies who had less than satisfactory experiences with some of the larger construction firms. “As a small company we learned that our size adds real value for our clients; we are nimble and able to respond quickly, redirect, and solve project challenges and stay on schedule and budget,” says Dirubbo, who is very proud of Acella’s commitment to build better.
Today, they own their own building in Pembroke, have over 35 employees and have reached over $25 million in sales.
They are a closely-knit team that thrives on collaboration. Acella’s enduring relationships with owners, architects and subcontractors has helped build experienced project teams that work seamlessly together and has facilitated Acella’s early involvement through preconstruction and design build services.  Recent experiences to build better academic spaces range from ground-up construction, phased construction, and complex interior renovations for Jackson – Walnut Park Schools, Thayer Academy, Sacred Heart High School, MIT and Northeastern University.  Acella has made significant contributions to the South Shore community completing recent projects for nonprofit cultural organizations such as Hingham Historical Society/Hingham Heritage Museum, Hingham Congregational Church, and the South Shore YMCA – as well as South Shore developers, Jumbo Capital Management and FoxRock Properties.  Healthcare work complements Acella’s expertise working in sensitive, occupied environments.  Recent wellness and healing space projects have been completed for South Shore Health System/South Shore Hospital.
Acella Construction works hard to give back to the community, supporting many local and regional organizations on an ongoing basis, and recently volunteering with and supporting the Wompatuck Warriors High School Mountain Bike Club.
Acella Construction has also demonstrated its committed to the ongoing growth of the company by continually recognizing team members’ leadership and promoting talent.  Just recently, Acella announced three major promotions:  Ryan Klebes to Preconstruction Director/Project Executive; Saul Schrader to Project Executive; and Scott Brash to General Superintendent.  Additionally, Krista Evans, Assistant Project Manager at Acella, was recently recognized for her excellence by the broader real estate community, as she was named one of Banker & Tradesman’s 2018 Women of FIRE, which recognizes deserving women in the finance, insurance, and real estate sectors who stand out from the crowd and have shown substantial success in their field while demonstrating a commitment to professional and personal growth.
“Acella is constantly striving to be better tomorrow than we are today, and that philosophy has helped us flourish over the last 15 years,” said Dirubbo.  “We’re excited to reach this milestone, and appreciate everyone who contributed to our success and helped us reach this point.”
