The YMCA Cape Cod has selected SV Design as the architect for their Upper Cape YMCA Facility project.

Jen Hocherman, LEED AIA, will serve as the lead architect for the Beverly-based design firm, which has a local office in Chatham. The schematic design will begin immediately for the future project, which will be located on a seven-acre parcel on 485 Brick Kiln Road in Falmouth.

This project, which aims to bring a 47,000 square foot facility to the Upper Cape, is the next step in a nearly decade long effort of bringing needed YMCA programs to the Falmouth area. In response to a Community Needs Assessment done in 2013, this facility plan includes a pool, wellness center, group exercise spaces, children and Youth spaces, play spaces, and multi- purpose program space to meet the needs of the Falmouth and Upper Cape communities.

“We’re extremely excited to be moving forward with this step in selecting SV Design,” said Stacie Peugh, president and CEO of the YMCA Cape Cod. “Out of a great pool of possible architects, we were extremely pleased with SV Design’s past work experience, specifically their work with YMCA designs in Massachusetts. Following completion of the schematic design’s rough draft, the YMCA Cape Cod plans to seek community feedback on design elements. YMCAs exist to support the community and make them stronger. We want to make sure we’re fulfilling that promise.”

The YMCA Cape Cod currently operates two early education centers including Early Head Start and Head Start, three summer camps, and four before and after school programs, on the Upper Cape. This proposed new building will allow us to continue to meet the community’s needs for healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility provided by YMCA programs.
