A first-time ArtWeek participant, the Harwich Cultural Center celebrates “Harwich is Creative!” A community fixture since 1937, the former Harwich Middle School has undergone adaptive reuse becoming a new cultural destination on lower Cape Cod. Harwich Cultural Center ArtWeek kicks-off Saturday, April 28 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Highlights include: open studios; the Harwich Cape Verdean Museum; art exhibit in the former library; canvas labyrinth walk facilitated by volunteer members of Pilgrim’s Landing; “I Love Harwich!” Diorama Art Exhibit featuring work by area students; performance by The Cape Cod Ukulele Club lead by Cathy Hatch; and a discussion and performance by the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra, founded by conductor Matthew Scinto. ArtWeek continues with in-studio demonstrations Monday through Friday. Ending the week on Sunday, May 6, poetry readings by authors Wilderness Sarchild, Christine Ernst, and Joanne Powers.
The town of Harwich and the Harwich Cultural Council has signed a formal agreement with the Harwich Chamber of Commerce and the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), becoming the first town in the commonwealth to join the new MCC cultural compact pilot program.
