Big Brothers Big Sisters Seeks to Set Kids up for Success this School Year

Wareham, MA: With school back in session, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands (BBBSCCI) is looking to engage the community in supporting youth through the school year (and beyond) by becoming a mentor. As part of this initiative, BBBSCCI is highlighting local youth who are waiting for a mentor as part of their “Waiting Little of the Month Campaign”.
September’s Waiting Little of the Month is 9-year-old Jayden from Wareham. Jayden has been on the agency’s waitlist for a Big Brother for nearly five months. Jayden is described as an active kid who enjoys soccer, basketball, riding his bike, drawing with pencils and painting! When he’s not outside, he likes playing board games like Sorry!. Jayden’s mom enrolled him in the program in hopes of finding a Big Brother who can be an additional support for him and help him explore new activities and interests.
“Our agency’s most urgent need continues to be male volunteers in the Wareham/Onset and Upper Cape areas,” noted JR Mell, Regional Director with BBBSCCI. “By partnering with youth and families to share their stories, it allows us to humanize the need for volunteer mentors. People are always surprised by the number of kids, especially boys, waiting right in their town.”
In addition to Jayden, there are currently 81 kids, 17 in the Wareham/Onset area, currently waiting for a mentor across the agency’s service territory, which encompasses Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Wareham & Plymouth.
