WEYMOUTH, HINGHAM, MA, ISSUED OCTOBER 8, 2024…The Arc of the South Shore, a family-oriented, community-based non-profit providing information, referrals, and community programs for individuals with disabilities, is giving high-fives to volunteers from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts for helping to refresh its Early Intervention building in Weymouth.
Some 30 volunteers from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts joined staff members of The Arc on September 26th for a full day of work that included window washing, painting walls, installing flooring, removing old carpeting, cleaning toys, and more.
“This amazing group of volunteers even painted two large murals,” said Brenda Linden, chief strategy and engagement officer with The Arc of the South Shore, noting that more than 80 windows, doors, and screens were washed and over 120 rubber flooring tiles were installed during the volunteer day.
Every September, associates from BCBS of Massachusetts offer a day of service to support non-profits across the Commonwealth. In addition to hands-on work, BCBS also provides a grant to cover the costs related to the project.
“We are so thankful for the hard work performed by the volunteers and for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts’ dedication to our mission,” said Linden.
These services include an Autism Resource Center, early intervention program, community supports, employment services, day supports and habilitation programs, in-home care, and residential services. All of their programs are based on their six core values of people first, community, transparency, self-determination, diversity, and respect. The Arc serves participants from communities throughout the South Shore, including Abington, Milton, Quincy, Randolph, Braintree, Weymouth, Hingham, Hull, Cohasset, Scituate, and Norwell. Through their 73-year history, they have helped more than 100,000 people.
