(Truro) Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill is excited to announce our Artist in the School Program that kicks off this September at Provincetown Elementary School. In collaboration with the Provincetown art teacher, Michael Gillane and visiting artist Kim Palmer, a multi-age class of approximately 15 students from grades 6, 7, & 8 will be creating Peace Poles and installing them on the school grounds.
There are 5 Criteria under the schools Approaches to Learning: Communication, Social, Research, Self-Management, and Thinking. Each one of these elements will be represented in a student-designed Peace Pole. Over the course of eight 1-hour sessions with Kim, the students will work together to brainstorm, design, paint and install the poles.
Castle Hill’s Artist in the School Program has been bringing the arts to public schools of the Outer Cape for almost 20 years. The goal of the program is to bring local artists into the school to work with the students, especially those who may not have access or the means to participate in outside art programs. Specific projects develop around the curriculum and are tailored to the grade level.
