The Cape Cod Community College Aviation Maintenance Technology Program is celebrating STEM Week by hosting a public Open House on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at its Plymouth Airport education center on 246 South Meadow Road. This is the first time the public has been invited to view the state-of-the-art facility.
This free event gives students, parents, educators, and aviation enthusiasts the opportunity to tour the AMT hangars and classrooms while learning how the next generation of aviation technicians are trained. A presentation will take place every hour and a tour of the multi-hangar facility will follow. Guests will be offered the opportunity to work parts of the training equipment such as the hydraulic landing gear & flap training board and the turbine engine simulator. The tour also includes demonstrations on the virtual welding and painting simulators.
Classes will be in session from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., making this a unique opportunity for attendees to see instructors and students in the classroom or working with both virtual and real-world learning tools.
The CCCC facility is home to a number of different airframes and engine types, including six fully operational reciprocating engines, two fully-operational turbine engines on its Sabreliner jet, a Falcon20 jet, and a static massive Pratt and Whitney V2500 jet engine.
Aviation maintenance technicians are in demand. According to Boeing’s 2018 Technician Outlook, advances in airplane technology will drive an increased need for technicians skilled in avionics, composites, and digital troubleshooting. The aviation industry will require more than 180,000 maintenance technicians by 2037 in North America alone.
Guests will have the opportunity to talk with an admissions representative who can answer questions about courses, future employability, housing options, costs, academic support services, financial aid and scholarships. Refreshments will be available all day – and attendees can take photos of themselves in a full-size model of a jet pack!
