Iconic resort welcomes back hotelier with focus on expanding community support 
The executive team at the iconic Chatham Bars Inn announces the appointment of luxury hotelier Gary S. Thulander as the resort’s new Managing Director.
The appointment marks Thulander’s return to the resort that sparked his management career and will further strengthen the Inn’s commitment to sustainability and the preservation of the historic shoreline through the team’s comunity connections with locally-based conservation organizations.
Thulander is highly respected for his ability to raise the profile of luxury and independent hotels and resorts through operational excellence, continuous innovation, community relationships, and financial growth. At Chatham Bars Inn, Thulander will fuse his decades of resort and New England luxury travel experience with his personal passion for Cape Cod.

Chatham Bars Inn Community Mission
The spirit of “Community” runs throughout the culture of Chatham Bars Inn’s staff and ownership. Every year, staff members dedicate time and energy into several programs and services.
The Inn is honored to assist those in need and provide resources and venues for events that might not otherwise happen without donated space. The Inn will continue to honor the tradition of community service and support.
The following are just a few of the programs the Inn has either created or participated in recently:
– Hosting a complimentary holiday luncheon each December for the police officers and participants in the Police Department’s Reassurance Program (the Program is designed to assist in the safety and well-being of the elder population in Chatham);
– Hosting the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame dinner and the Fan Appreciation Day to assist in the development of future athletes as well as support areas affected by the baseball league;
– For the last 23 years, hosting the Giving Tree Ceremony that draws the community together by donating clothes and toys to families in need;
– Awarding a $3,000 scholarship to a graduating Chatham High School student to help grow and develop the town’s youth, most of whom return to give back to Chatham;
– Supporting the Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen’s Association, a local coalition dedicated to a healthy marine environment and the education and management of conscious fishing business, ensuring that seafood served at the resort is sustainable and to support environmentally conscious local businesses;
and
-­‐ As a founding partner and major supporter of The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, offering guests the opportunity to shadow the only team of scientists conducting research on the Great White Shark population off the coast of Cape Cod. This partnership provides an amazing experience while helping to dispel the negative myths surrounding sharks by highlighting the vital role they play in the health of the ecosystem that the Cape community depends on.

Gary Thulander, Managing Director for Chatham Bars Inn, uses his decades of expertise in hospitality, his passion for Cape Cod, and his wealth of knowledge about New England and luxury travel to uphold the resort’s preeminence and global admiration. His connections with locally-based conservation organizations further the resort’s commitment to sustainability and the preservation of the historic shoreline. Thulander is a New England native who graduated from the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore School of Business with a degree in Hotel Administration. He received his foundational training in the profession, at the Forbes 5-star The Williamsburg Inn in Williamsburg, Virginia. Thulander’s reputable hospitality experience includes positions as President and General Manager of the Woodstock Inn & Resort, General Manager at Landings and Anse Chastanet & Jade Mountain, and General Manager of Cap Juluca in Anguilla. He also served as General Manager at the Equinox Resort and Spa, a RockResort in Manchester,Vermont, where he received the prestigious Chairman’s Award
from Vail Resorts, and spent time at The Boulders Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona, a then-Five Diamond property.
