Friends of Bass River, the regional nonprofit launched in 2017 to protect the delicate ecosystem of the Bass River Estuarine System, is excited to welcome Brian Weiner as their new Executive Director. In his new role, Weiner will represent Friends of Bass River to the public, towns, government, civic groups and other non-profits to raise awareness of the critical environmental issues the river currently faces. He will also oversee all fundraising events and activities, develop a diverse donor network and manage teams of volunteers interested in river cleanup and monitoring.
The announcement was made by DeWitt Davenport, Mark Anschutz and Bob Churchill, co-founders of the organization. “We are thrilled to welcome Brian to the team. His corporate and nonprofit expertise combined with his energy and passion for improving Bass River make him the ideal choice to take our organization to the next level,” says Davenport. “Brian’s wealth of nonprofit leadership experience will be an incredible asset as we work towards the goals we must achieve to save the river.”
Weiner has been actively engaged in the support and leadership of nonprofits since 1990, beginning as the President and Chief Operating Officer of The KMS Companies in Woburn, Massachusetts. From 1992 until his retirement from the company at the end of 2016, Mr. Weiner built and led The One to One Group, a multi-city (Sarasota FL, Raleigh NC and Boston, MA) business dedicated solely to the support of nonprofits. His background includes a specialty in raising new donor dollars for a wide range of clients in human services, environmental, faith-based and academic pursuits. An avid kayaker and photographer, Weiner and his wife Kathleen have two adult daughters and are year-round residents of Harwich.
