GREGG DIETRICH JOINS ELDRED’S AS SENIOR CONSULTANT, SPECIALIST
The Robert C. Eldred Co. announced today Gregg K. Dietrich has joined the auction and
appraisal firm as a Senior Consultant and Specialist. Mr. Dietrich brings to the position a diverse range of
knowledge and experience in the art market following decades of work in both gallery and auction settings. He
will primarily focus on continuing to expand Eldred’s industry-leading Maritime Art department although he
will also assist in the procurement of high quality consignments across a wide array of collecting areas.
“We are beyond thrilled Gregg has joined the Eldred’s team,” said Joshua F. Eldred, company president. “Over
the past few years we have made a concerted effort to position ourselves as the premier Maritime Art auction
house. Under the expert guidance of Bill Bourne, head of the department, we have seen incredible growth and
success, including the important sales of the Mittler and Kobacker Scrimshaw Collections and, of course, the
world record-shattering sale of the Burdett scrimshaw tooth last summer. I firmly believe that with both Bill and
Gregg on the same team, no other auction house can match Eldred’s expertise in Marine Art, and the potential
for even more growth in the field is exponential.”
Mr. Dietrich shares Mr. Eldred’s enthusiasm. “Eldred’s is now clearly the leader in Marine Arts and Antiques,
as well as in the reemerging Americana market. I look forward to the opportunity to work with Josh, Bill and
everyone at Eldred’s to help build another exceptional Marine Sale for this summer, and to add to their other
departments as I can.”
Mr. Dietrich studied art and art history at Cornell University, has run galleries in New York and has served as
an art consultant for numerous museums, corporations and private collections. He is a competitive sailor and a
member of New York Yacht Club. He is based in Newport, Rhode Island.
Eldred’s next Marine Sale is scheduled for July 19, 2018. Early consignments to the sale include the last half of
the Kobacker Scrimshaw Collection and items from a fine Maryland collection. Quality consignments are still
being accepted. Those wishing to set up an appointment with Mr. Dietrich for property evaluations may call
