GRAND OPENING WEEKEND OF LEVITATE BACKYARD & REXICANA SURF CANTINA FEATURES TWO SOLD OUT CONCERTS ON AUGUST 2 & 3. OPENING TO THE PUBLIC ON AUGUST 4.
MARSHFIELD, MA July 31, 2019 …Massachusetts’ newest live event venue, restaurant and margarita bar will open its doors this weekend. The Levitate Backyard & Rexicana Surf Cantina is powered by Dan & Jess Hassett, local owner-operators of Levitate. The new business is connected to the Levitate Surf Shop on the corner of Ocean St. and Webster St. in the heart of Marshfield.
The vision of the 200-capacity indoor / outdoor venue and restaurant is to bring world class music, art, and food to Marshfield on an ongoing basis. By featuring both local and touring musicians in the same backyard venue, Levitate hopes to elevate the community and expand its mission of bringing the community together through surf, music, and art. Levitate Backyard has ten ticketed concerts in the 2019 season, and plans to add more ticketed shows, documentary screenings, and private functions. On days without ticketed concerts, the margarita bar and restaurant will be open to the public with daily Apres Beach acoustic music on the patio from area musicians.
Featured upcoming ticketed performing artists are Chadwick Stokes of the band Dispatch, Citizen Cope, Keller Williams, and Donavon Frankenreiter, along with local rising stars The Elovaters and SixFoxWhiskey. Concert tickets and information can be found online at LevitateBrand.com and in-store at Levitate Surf Shop in Marshfield.
Food at the Rexicana Surf Cantina is inspired by cuisine sampled by Dan and Jess during surf trips around the world, reimagined with locally sourced ingredients by Executive Chef Jake Hill of Plymouth. The Cantina, with a casual, counter-service setting, is open daily from 3:00 to 9:00 PM Monday through Saturday, and 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays, through late October. Menu offerings feature locally-sourced tacos with hand-pressed corn tortillas, farm-to-table produce, and fresh-squeezed margaritas.
The Rexicana name has a long and storied history in Marshfield and is remembered fondly by thousands. Owned for decades by the Clancy family of Marshfield, The Rexicana Ballroom was a popular dance hall featuring a grand balcony, tiered stage, and famous acts coming in from around the world. Says Jack Clancy of the Clancy family, “It is an honor for the Clancy family to have Dan & Jess select and rejuvenate the name Rexicana, which our father John coined in the early 1960’s for his new endeavor.”
The Hassetts are grateful to have the blessing of the Clancy family and hope their new business can create the fond memories for today’s residents and visitors to Marshfield that the original Rexicana provided for so many during decades past.
