Local students invited to participate in Steamship Authority's Student Art Contest

The Steamship Authority (SSA), serving passengers from Woods Hole, Hyannis, Nantucket, Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, is accepting entries for its annual art contest for students in grades K-12 living in the SSA’s constituent communities. Students living in Barnstable, Fairhaven, Falmouth, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket and New Bedford are invited to participate. Thirteen prize winners will be selected and the winning artwork will be showcased in a 2019 calendar, as well as displayed on the SSA’s website and exhibited on board SSA ferries.
The contest theme “Sail into Imagination” was conceived to encourage students to share their vision of traveling aboard SSA ferries to Cape and Islands ports and to inspire artistic interpretations of growing up by the sea.
“The entries we’ve seen over the past two years have shown remarkable creativity and talent from students,” said Robert Davis, General Manager of the SSA. “Each young artist brings a unique perspective of traveling on our ferries. We’re looking forward to another collection of inspired images to share in our calendar and in our terminals.”
In addition to having their art displayed in the calendar and on SSA ferries, student winners will be awarded a $100 gift card for passenger travel aboard a SSA ferry and an invitation to attend the official art unveiling reception hosted by the SSA this July.
Students are invited to submit entries online, through the mail or by dropping their submissions at Steamship Authority Terminals no later than May 31, 2018. Winners will be announced on the Steamship Authority’s website in late June.
