The Martha’s Vineyard Bank and the Martha’s Vineyard Bank Charitable Foundation have awarded $85,100 in their first quarter 2020 cycle to non-profits on the Island and in the surrounding area.

The Grants Committee meets quarterly and is committed to the betterment of our community in the areas of Education, Economic Development, Health & Human Services, Culture, Art & Historic Heritage, and Community Services.

The 19 organizations chosen for this quarter are:

Martha’s Vineyard Sharks Baseball, Martha’s Vineyard Wind Festival, Falmouth Chorale, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & Islands, Island Food Pantry, Vineyard Montessori (2), Neighborhood Falmouth, Museums on the Green, Storytime Crafts, Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, Martha’s Vineyard Non Profit Collaborative, Camp Jabberwocky, Martha’s Vineyard Fishermen’s Preservation Trust, Edgartown Free Public Library, Martha’s Vineyard Cancer Support Group, Inc., League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard, Island Autism Group, Inc., and Woods Hole Film Festival.

In addition, the Oak Bluffs School Parent Teacher Organization was provided funding to assist in bringing a special day of training on Feb. 14, 2020 for 78 students in the strings program. Guest musicians Hayden Oliver, traveling professionally with the Musical “Hamilton,” and Naomi Steckman, a Boston based cellist for several top symphony orchestras in New England, were a part of the program. Both Mr. Oliver and Ms. Steckman spent the day inspiring young Island musicians together with Rebecca Laird, the Oak Bluffs School music teacher.

The second quarter application deadline date for the next cycle of funding is May 18, 2020, which is also the deadline date for Educational Mini Grants. The Educational Mini Grant application (which is valid for any Martha’s Vineyard Public School and for The Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School) is available through the Martha’s Vineyard Superintendent’s Office at jshinn@mvyps.org or by contacting Patti Leighton, Community Relations Director at pleighton@mvbank.com.
