This year would have, under normal circumstances, marked Mid-Cape’s third annual First Responder Appreciation Day, an event full of live music, games, touch-a-trucks and many other activities for the whole family.
Unfortunately, like many other events and fundraisers this year, Mid-Cape had to eliminate the in-person portion of the appreciation event and shift to a virtual fundraiser. In years past, the company has raised just over $8,000 from this event; this year’s goal is to raise $10,000 through an Appreciation Raffle. Prizes, valued at more than $1,000 each, include a Nantucket Getaway: a two-night stay at the White Elephant Nantucket, with round trip airfare donated by CapeAir. Other raffle items have been donated by Ten Pin Eatery, EffecTV and Shoveltown Brewery.
The idea of creating a First Responder Appreciation Day was inspired by the tragic death of Sgt. Sean M. Gannon of the Yarmouth Police Department. Mid Cape wanted to celebrate and honor Gannon’s legacy by hosting this event each year, so his story will live on and inspire others, while simultaneously raising funds to aid the needs of local first responders. All proceeds will be donated to the Sean M. Gannon Memorial Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation.
Mid-Cape works with the Sean M. Gannon Memorial Fund team to allocate the funds raised to specific programs that align best with the needs of the local community at the time of distribution.
