Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce Announces 70th Anniversary Celebration

PLYMOUTH, MA, ISSUED MAY 8, 2019…The Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce (www.plymouthchamber.com), a not-for-profit, private organization representing over 750 businesses and organizations and now celebrating its 70th year, announced today it is hosting a 70th anniversary party for its members on Wednesday, June 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mayflower Society on North Street in Plymouth.  (Rain date set for Friday, June 21.) 
 Celebrating with the theme, “70 Years of Growing Together,” and taking place in the solarium and gardens of one of Plymouth’s oldest organizations, the event will allow participants an opportunity to look both back on the past, and ahead to the future.  Longstanding members of the chamber will be recognized, and distinguished guests – including local and state officials – are expected to attend.  Food will be provided by local vendors and a cash bar will be on hand. 
 The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, Inc. was officially established on December 29, 1949, when Edward J. Cronin, then-Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, recognized the efforts of Jackson J. Golden, Joseph S. Contente, Kendall S. Estes, Dexter M. Brooks, A. Linwood Ellis, Jr., William J. Sharkey, August B. Gavoni, Gordon L. Howland, William A. Scherff, Louis Sherman, Paul W. Bittinger, Edwin R. Buttner, Ralph Malaguti, Abraham Penn, and Joseph Nogueira and their goal, “to advance the historical, commercial, industrial, civic, and general interests of the Town of Plymouth and its trade area….”
 Among the longest-standing members of the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce are those that have maintained membership for 50+ years.  They include Almeida & Carlson Insurance, Best Western Plus Cold Spring, Eastern Bank, Eversource Energy, Gatehouse Media, Pilgrim Station-Entergy, Plimoth Plantation, Inc., and Plymouth & Brockton Street Railway.
 “We are so excited to bring our entire membership together in celebration of this momentous anniversary,” said Amy Naples, executive director of the Plymouth Area Chamber of Commerce.  “Our members make us what we are, and what we will become – we are so grateful to them for all they do for our community.  It’s an honor to have this occasion to celebrate and thank them as well.”
