Sandwich – The Sandwich Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2018 Annual Awards, which will be presented to the winners at its annual meeting on Thursday, October 18, 2018, 11:30am – 1:30pm at The Pilot House, 14 Gallo Road, Sandwich.  Sponsored by Cape Cod Healthcare and Mr. T’s Auto Repair, registration starts at 11:30am, with networking and passed hors d’oeuvres till noon followed by a seated lunch with meal selections available.  Businesses, friends and family are encouraged to attend.  Tickets are on sale now for $30 Members, $45 Potential Members at www.SandwichChamber.com/networking-events.  Advanced paid registration required.  Walk-ins will not be accepted.  More information at 508-681-0918 or tstanley@sandwichchamber.com.
Business of the Year:  Oceanside Animal Hospital, Dr. Corey Blake
Oceanside Animal Hospital has shown great leadership in the community. They immediately got involved with the dog parade at SandwichFest, have hosted Chamber “Business After Hours” events, and more.  They provide signage and waste bags in conservation areas to keep the parks and trails clean, hire college interns to learn the profession, thereby providing local opportunities.  Not to mention designing the hospital to minimize patients’ anxiety by creating a more natural environment.  Their mission is to make patient and owner comfortable by explaining what they do during exams and why they make certain recommendations.  Oceanside Animal Hospital is committed to our community both at their location and out in the larger community.
Merrell Award for Volunteering:  Peter Thomas
Peter Thomas has volunteered in Sandwich for many years.  He helped rebuild the Sandwich boardwalk after the 1993 “No Name” storm, plays trumpet at Sandwich’s Carol Sing every year, and volunteers for Sandwich Chamber for many events, including SandwichFest, Holly Days, and others.  He comes in rain and wind to help whenever, wherever needed!  Additionally, he’s a member of the Sandwich Conservation Trust and Boardwalk Celebration committee.  When in a tough spot, Peter is always willing to help in any way he can!
Public Servant Award for Government Employee:  Joanne Lamothe, Sandwich Public Library
Joanne Lamothe has been the Director of the Sandwich Public Library for 8 years.  Prior to Sandwich, she was the Director of the Weymouth Public Libraries and the Duxbury Free Library.  She has served as the President of the Old Colony Library Network and the New England Library Association.  She is currently one of the Conference Co-Chairs of the Massachusetts Library Association.
Some of Joanne’s accomplishments while in Sandwich include a new library parking lot, improved accessible entrances, the installation of a modern, energy efficient heating and cooling system, and the introduction of downloadable content including e-books, audios, movies, and magazines.  She also serves as the administrator of Sandwich’s Glass Town Cultural District.  Joanne Lamothe, as the leader of the Sandwich Public Library, exemplifies service leadership as a public servant.
Leo Manning Award for Town Ambassador:  Carl Johansen 
Carl Johansen, a concerned citizen in the wonderful town of Sandwich and also a legionnaire and member of the Clark/Haddad American Legion Post 188 is the Leo Manning Award recipient.  Year after year, Carl has proven to be an avid ambassador for the Town of Sandwich.  A faithful town meeting attendee, he has worked tirelessly on many high-profile projects within town that draw people to our community, including the Sand Hill Community Center and more recently, helping the American Legion’s efforts to install a Vietnam War Memorial beside the Sandwich Town Hall.  He is an advocate for business, the chamber, and community life and a deserving recipient of this award.
