ROCKLAND, MA, ISSUED AUGUST 16, 2024… The South Shore Food Bank, working in partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank to improve food access on the South Shore, help address food equity across towns, and help make fresh options more readily available to families relying on food pantries to meet their needs, is proud to announce that it has been named a Best Place to Work by Cape & Plymouth Business Marketing, LLC, formerly known as Cape & Plymouth Business Media, LLC.
South Shore Food Bank is one of 40 organizations nominated by staff, volunteers and/or vendors to be selected for the honor. All nominations were voted based on criteria in team culture, hiring, training, community service, and company communication. Organizations selected for the honor are recognized for creating positive work environments that foster employee satisfaction and growth.
Many factors contributed to the successful nomination of South Shore Food Bank as a Best Place to Work. For one, the organization takes pride in its collaborative and team-oriented culture. As a small team of six, “none can afford to be an island,” according to Executive Director Pamela Denholm. “Everyone has to work together to get the job done and succeed.”
Working at a food bank and constantly challenging barriers to food security can result in mental fatigue. To combat this, the organization has implemented an “open vacation time” policy. Should an employee need a day off, they can take one and get paid for it. This policy has been a “game-changer” for staff, according to Denholm.
And although not specific to its own employees, South Shore Food Bank, in conjunction with Interfaith Social Services, has created a Leadership Academy, which hopes to strengthen the network of food security organizations throughout the South Shore by offering training to staff members at other food pantries throughout the South Shore.
As a nonprofit organization, the mission of the South Shore Food Bank is to give back to its community and is part of a united community effort to bring food, dignity and hope to its South Shore neighbors.
“We are thrilled to be acknowledged as a Best Place to Work by Cape & Plymouth Business Marketing,” said Denholm. “It’s rewarding to see our efforts to create a workplace where everyone is valued and appreciated recognized.”
