YMCA Cape Cod, with the help of funding from Cape Cod Healthcare Community Benefit, will host its first-ever Livestrong at the YMCA Retreat at Camp Lyndon in Sandwich from September 14 – 16, 2018.
The scenic 79-acre camp situated on Lawrence Pond in Sandwich offers beach, woods, fields and rustic features to re-connect with nature. Participants will relax, have fun, and enjoy themselves. Attendees are welcome to join all or just some of the activities and find time to enjoy a beach chair and a book.
The retreat is themed to support Livestrong program participants, the entire weekend free of charge to all Cape Cod residents who have battled cancer. Caregivers, regardless of participation in the Livestrong program or with the YMCA are also invited to join the retreat. For non-Cape Cod residents, the cost is $100 for the weekend and $150 for caregivers. The weekend includes meals, activities, and accommodations if participants wish to stay in shared rustic cabins. Livestrong at the YMCA is a 12-week program for cancer survivors. The program is led by certified Lifestyle Coaches and meets twice a week. The group consists of about 12 survivors who are able to support each other and speak about their similar experiences. The coaches lead the participants through a variety of health and wellness activities, geared toward improving their strength, balance, and self-confidence. The program is free and includes a free YMCA membership during the time of the program. The goal is to improve the health of the participants and get them involved into the YMCA community.
