Wareham residents encouraged to step forward as mentors for local youth
Wareham, MA — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands (BBBSCCI) is bringing The One Campaign to Wareham this month, calling on residents to volunteer as mentors for youth in their own community.
As part of a month-long regional recruitment initiative, BBBSCCI is spotlighting a different town each week and challenging residents to help eliminate the waitlist for young people who are ready to be matched with a caring adult mentor. Nearly 100 youth across Cape Cod & the Islands are currently waiting — including 22 boys in and around Wareham.
The One Campaign focuses on creating change, one mentor, one child, and one match at a time.
“Recruiting volunteers — especially male mentors — is our greatest need right now,” said JR Mell, Regional Director for BBBSCCI. “We know the people of Wareham care deeply about their community. By stepping forward as mentors, residents can make a direct and lasting impact on a young person’s life right here at home.”
BBBSCCI matches adult volunteers (“Bigs”) with youth (“Littles”) for one-to-one mentoring relationships built on friendship, guidance, and consistency. Just a few hours each month can help a young person build confidence, strengthen academic engagement, and expand their vision for the future.
Throughout the week of March 30-April 5, BBBSCCI will host local outreach and recruitment activities in Wareham, partnering with community organizations and businesses including Gleason Family YMCA (3/31 & 4/1), Bailey’s Surf N Turf & Lemondadio (3/31), Cape Cod Coffee (4/2) and A.D. Makepeace.
