HYANNIS, MA — April 3, 2026 — Cotuit Center for the Arts is proud to announce the expansion of its Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Network (CapeCodCAN) into a new, vibrant space at 525 South Street in Hyannis, marking a major step forward in accessibility, inclusion, and community-driven arts programming across Cape Cod.
CapeCodCAN—an outreach program of Cotuit Center for the Arts—provides arts education and creative opportunities for individuals of all abilities, including those who are neurodiverse or have intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities. The new Hyannis location will allow the program to serve more students of all ages and abilities while strengthening connections throughout the Mid-Cape.
“This expansion is about meeting people where they are,” said Malissa Kenney, Director of Outreach and Inclusion at Cotuit Center for the Arts. “Hyannis is a natural hub for many of the individuals and organizations we serve. By establishing a presence here, we’re making the arts more accessible in a meaningful, lasting way.”
The opportunity to expand into Hyannis comes at a pivotal moment. As CCFTA’s education and outreach programming continues to grow—driven by new youth programs, partnerships, and the addition of the Score Music School—teaching space in Cotuit has become increasingly limited. The availability of the 525 South Street location, home to Hyphen Gallery and a new adjacent studio space, offered an ideal setting to support CapeCodCAN’s continued growth.
The Center has already built strong ties to the space, having hosted classes and community events there since 2023. Now, with dedicated studio space, CapeCodCAN can expand its offerings and reach. CCFTA is especially grateful to Hyphen, the creative community space at 525 South Street, and its founders, Susan Battista, Fritz Klaetke, Amy Brenneman, Brad Silberling, and Denise and Frank Teixeira, for their continued support and partnership in creating a welcoming home for this work in Hyannis.
“This already felt like home,” Kenney added. “Now we have the space to grow and welcome even more people into the creative process.”
This Hyannis expansion also strengthens CCFTA’s ability to collaborate with key regional partners, including Barnstable Recreation, Barnstable Public Schools, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and St. Joseph’s Shelter—all based in Hyannis. In addition, the continued development of community-based housing options for individuals with disabilities in the area is helping position Hyannis as an increasingly important hub for inclusive programming.
Through this expansion, CCFTA anticipates serving a significantly larger number of participants across Barnstable, Mashpee, Sandwich, and the broader Mid-Cape—offering classes, workshops, and social opportunities that foster creativity, confidence, and connection.
Importantly, CapeCodCAN remains a core outreach program of Cotuit Center for the Arts, reinforcing the Center’s long-standing commitment to ensuring the arts are accessible to all.
“This is not a departure—it’s an expansion,” said David Kuehn, Executive Director of Cotuit Center for the Arts. “CapeCodCAN is, and always will be, an essential part of Cotuit Center for the Arts. This new space allows us to deepen our impact and bring more people into a creative community where they belong.”
