Barbara Liftman
Barbara Liftman has been practicing all aspects of family law, civil litigation and transactional work in Massachusetts since 1991. After fifteen years with a general practice law firm in Worcester, she has been a sole practitioner since 2006. In 2017, looking for a way to spend more time on Cape Cod and less time in Worcester, Barbara conceived of an idea that would simplify the divorce process, reduce the expense, and take the “nasty” out of divorce by helping couples who have decided to part ways amicably work out the details to dissolve their marital partnerships.
With a $19.00 dollar mailbox at Cape Space and a free Google listing, Cape Cod Uncontested Divorce was born. For one low cost, Barbara helps couples reach a full agreement, prepares all of the documents, and walks them through the court process. Demand for this unique service has been so great that Barbara now operates from six offices in Massachusetts and via Zoom. She has offices in Hyannis, Plymouth, Newton, Worcester, Springfield and Pittsfield and accepts cases from every county in the Commonwealth.
Ms. Liftman is a cum laude graduate of Brandeis University and Suffolk University Law School. She is a single parent and has first-hand experience with divorce, co-parenting, blended families and the complex emotions that go along with divorce and starting over. It is the blend of her many years of experience in the courtroom and her personal challenges that fuel her desire to help couples avoid the uncertainties, acrimony and expense that go along with contested divorce.
With all of the time she saves not arguing with other lawyers, going to court and chasing billings, Barbara hosts advanced hikes for the Cape Cod Nordic Walking group and volunteers for the Family Table Collaborative. She lives in Yarmouth Port with her two dogs, Cooper and Charly, and is renovating a cottage in the Berkshires.
