2026 Wage and Hour Compliance Seminar
WAGE AND HOUR AND SEASONAL IMMIGRATION COMPLIANCEFOR CAPE COD BUSINESSES – HYBRID EVENT
HEAR FROM THE US DEPARTMENT OF LABOR REGARDING ENFORCEMENT AND BRING YOUR QUESTIONS!
There have been several recent dramatic changes in immigration and employment-related laws, standards and practices affecting how hospitality industry businesses and seasonal businesses in Massachusetts engage and pay employees. The United States Department of Labor and the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General continue to target the industry for compliance audits and have emphasized the use of stiffer penalties (such as multiple damages and civil monetary penalties) when enforcing wage and hour laws. Immigration compliance, including the engagement of seasonal workers, continues to evolve.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2026 the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce will sponsor an important and informative event designed to provide our membership with all of the tools necessary to comply with seasonal immigration and wage and hour laws. The event will be a hybrid event available via Teams or in person commencing at 9:00 a.m. The event will take place and be broadcast from the CCCC offices, 5 Patti Page Way, Centerville. Topics to be addressed include:
- Traversing the seasonal worker immigration compliance landscape;
- How to comply with both federal and state wage laws (and why employers must do both);
- How to avoid common, but potentially crippling, mistakes in calculating and paying minimum wage and overtime;
- Compliance with the Massachusetts and Federal Tipping Law;
- The proper categorization of workers – exempt v. non-exempt and contractors v. employees;
- Common mistakes in the hospitality industry;
- Personal liability, multiple damages and attorneys’ fees exposure under Massachusetts and federal law; and,
- What you should do if faced with a government audit or threatened litigation.
