The Arc of the South Shore Receives $10,000 Funding from the Harold Brooks Foundation
HINGHAM, MA, ISSUED SEPTEMBER 17, 2026…It is with great appreciation that The Arc of the South Shore, a family-oriented, community-based non-profit providing information, referrals, and community programs for individuals with disabilities, now celebrating its 75th year, announces that it has received a $10,000 grant from the Harold Brooks Foundation to help underwrite the Autism Support Department’s school vacation programs.
The funding will be used for engaging initiatives during school year breaks that promote social skills, such as art activities, music therapy sessions, and group events for children and youth.
The grant further advances The Arc’s commitment to delivering programming that fosters connection, confidence, and inclusion for young people with disabilities.
“This generous grant from the Harold Brooks Foundation will go a long way toward ensuring that our school vacation programs continue to offer opportunities for children and youth to engage, build skills and thrive within a supportive environment,” said Elizabeth Sandblom, CEO of The Arc of the South Shore. “We are deeply grateful.”
The Harold Brooks Foundation supports nonprofit organizations that enhance the lives of South Shore residents. Established in 1984, the foundation is named after Harold Brooks, a successful business executive and entrepreneur from Braintree, Massachusetts, who manufactured and sold prefabricated structures and underground bomb shelters during the Cold War era.

These services include an Autism Resource Center, early intervention program, community supports, employment services, day supports and habilitation programs, in-home care, and residential services. All of their programs are based on their six core values of people first, community, transparency, self-determination, diversity, and respect. The Arc serves participants from communities throughout the South Shore, including Abington, Milton, Quincy, Randolph, Braintree, Weymouth, Hingham, Hull, Cohasset, Scituate, and Norwell. Throughout their 75-year history, they have helped more than 100,000 people.
