This weekend, YMCA Cape Cod launched the public phase of its capital campaign to build a new YMCA for the Upper Cape—The Don & Dottie Smith YMCA—at a special community celebration held at Christ Lutheran Church in Falmouth.
The free, family-friendly event featured kids’ activities, snacks, a YMCA program expo, and live broadcasts from CCB Media’s 99.9 The Q. Community members explored future plans for the new YMCA and enjoyed learning more about how the Y serves local youth and families. Remarks were shared by YMCA Cape Cod President & CEO Stacie Peugh; Chris Ellis of the Community Health Center of Cape Cod; and campaign chairs Bob Antonucci and Steve and Mary Beth Clay.
“For nearly 60 years, the Y has served the Upper Cape, growing alongside the needs of our community,” said Peugh. “Now, we look ahead to building a permanent, state-of- the-art home where people of all ages and backgrounds can thrive. We are so grateful to our early supporters and donors who got us to this point today.”
The new YMCA will be a vibrant hub for wellness, youth and family programming, and community connection. Plans include: a wellness center and group exercise studios, warm water and lap pools, Child Watch and Kids’ Adventure Center, teen and intergenerational spaces, community and multipurpose rooms, outdoor camp and recreation areas, and dedicated space for partner organization, Community Health Center of Cape Cod.
The new facility will deliver transformative programs and services that promote health, youth development, and belonging. The Y seeks to raise $550,000 from the community to make this vision a reality.
“An investment in this project is an investment in the well-being of our neighbors and the future of our children,” said campaign co-chair Bob Antonucci. “We invite the entire community to help us bring this vision to life.”
