HINGHAM, HYANNIS, MARSTONS MILLS AND PLYMOUTH, MA… Dr. Michael Shaughnessy, a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon has joined Contemporary Dermatology.
Serving the South Shore, Cape Cod and the Islands, Contemporary Dermatology has state-of-the-art offices in the Pinehills, Plymouth and Marstons Mills, and has recently opened a third office in Festival Shopping Plaza, 1070 Iyannough Road, Unit 50 in Hyannis, MA.

Dr. Shaughnessy is a double board-certified physician in both dermatology and Mohs surgery, and an expert in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer, including the surgical removal of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and more rare types of skin cancer. He specializes in cosmetic reconstructive techniques, such as the use of skin flaps and grafts.
Dr. Shaughnessy graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biology from Duke University prior to receiving his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and dermatology residency at the prestigious Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency Program training at MGH, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel, and Boston Children’s Hospital. Following residency, Dr. Shaughnessy completed a fellowship in Cutaneous Oncology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University
Dr. Shaughnessy’s research has primarily focused on melanoma in addition to basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on skin cancer.
Dr. Shaughnessy is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American College of Mohs Surgery in addition to the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa Honors societies.
He is a Hingham resident.
