A Major Transformation Is Coming to the Hyannis Transportation Center
A fresh new look and an improved boarding experience are coming to the Hyannis Transportation Center
HYANNIS, MA – Exciting changes are on the way at the Hyannis Transportation Center! Beginning September 8, 2026, the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) will launch a major capital improvement project designed to improve passenger flow, modernize the boarding area, and provide better protection from the elements.
At the heart of the transformation are four new bus bay pull-outs, improvements to a segment of Transportation Avenue, and a new passenger canopy that will provide much-needed cover and shelter for passengers waiting for or being dropped off by CCRTA buses. Beyond the operational improvements, the project will help beautify the transportation center campus and create a more attractive gateway to Hyannis. Substantial completion is anticipated in December 2026.
“This project is about making the Hyannis Transportation Center work better for the people who rely on it every day,” said CCRTA Administrator John Kennedy. “We are excited to see the new bus bays and canopy take shape and to give our passengers a better experience from the moment they arrive.”
During most of the construction period, a segment of Transportation Avenue from Main Street/Center Street to the CCRTA’s west lot will be closed.
The closure will not affect buses or other vehicles entering or exiting the Hyannis Transportation Center from Route 28 or Paula George Way. Transit services will continue to operate throughout the project.
CCRTA is committed to keeping passengers, employees, neighbors, and the public informed before and throughout construction. Weekly project updates will be provided once work begins.
CCRTA is proud to invest in an improvement that will make a meaningful difference for passengers for years to come. We look forward to watching the new space take shape and appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during construction.
