Hyannis, Mass., April 24, 2025 – Cape Cod Healthcare will celebrate the grand opening of the Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion at Cape Cod Hospital with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Remarks and the ribbon cutting will begin promptly at 4:45 p.m., followed by a reception and tours of the first two floors of the new facility for invited guests and media.
The four-story, 141,148-square-foot pavilion represents a $215 million investment aimed at enhancing patient care by expanding advanced oncology, cardiology, and medical/surgical services. The first two floors house the outpatient Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center, featuring 36 private infusion bays – more than double the previous facility’s capacity – and expanded radiation therapy facilities equipped with state-of-the-art technology including two linear accelerators, which deliver precise radiation treatment for cancer patients. Following today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the oXicial grand opening of the pavilion, the new cancer center will begin serving patients on May 12, 2025.
The upper floors are slotted to open later in 2025, with the third floor dedicated to cardiovascular care for patients, consolidating the hospital’s inpatient cardiology programs into an advanced care unit. The fourth floor provides 32 medical/surgical beds to accommodate the growing demand for surgical services at Cape Cod Hospital. Each patient room in the pavilion is designed for single occupancy, providing a more focused and private environment to support recovery.
“The Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion marks a significant step in our commitment to providing exceptional healthcare to the community, today and for the future of care in our region,” said Michael K. Lauf, President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare. “The new facility ensures residents have access to top-tier oncology, cardiology and clinical care services right here on Cape Cod, eliminating the need to journey oX-Cape for treatment and offering a critical resource close to home.”
The Edwin Barbey Patient Care Pavilion was made possible in part by a generous $10 million donation from the Edwin Barbey Charitable Trust, directed by Peter and Pamela Barbey of Hyannis port. This contribution is part of Cape Cod Healthcare’s “Quality. Trust. Partnership.” campaign, which raised $144 million to support significant facility and service upgrades across the healthcare system.
