Accomplished Community Health Care Executive to Expand Donor Support

Harwich Port, Mass., July 8, 2025   Outer Cape Health Services (OCHS), a federally qualified community health center serving Cape Cod, has announced the appointment of Irene Hammer as its new Director of Development.

Irene Hammer Hammer’s extensive experience includes more than two decades of developing fundraising strategies and securing major gifts for  health care organizations throughout the Northeast.  Most recently, she served as the inaugural Director of Development at Boston’s Harvard Street Health Center,  directing its first-ever capital campaign aimed at constructing a stand-alone health center.

She also served as Executive Director of Development for Emory Healthcare’s neurology and neurosurgery departments and Winship Cancer Institute in Atlanta. Additionally, Hammer was Senior Director of Development at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School. Earlier in her career, she worked as a frontline fundraiser at the Alzheimer’s Association.

In her role at OCHS, Hammer will define and lead development strategies, strengthen philanthropic support, and collaborate closely with the leadership team and board to fund the organization’s longterm mission: expanding access to high-quality, community-centered healthcare on the Outer Cape.

“Irene’s proven expertise in securing major gifts and building sustainable fundraising programs will be instrumental as OCHS innovates to ensure long-term viability,” said Dr. Damian Archer, CEO of OCHS. “Her leadership comes at a pivotal time for community health centers navigating both increasing demand and evolving care models.”

Hammer earned a master’s degree in English from Northeastern University and a master’s degree in nonprofit management from Regis University, and  is a resident of Eastham who enjoys running, hiking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends on Cape Cod.

Hammer’s addition as Director of Development strengthens OCHS’s efforts to build donor relationships and meet the challenges community healthcare providers face – from maintaining essential services to expanding programs that improve access to care across the region.
