Outer Cape Health Services Observes National Women’s Health Month with Expanded Services and Focus on Prevention

Harwich Port, Mass., May 7, 2025 – In recognition of National Women’s Health Month this May, Outer Cape Health Services (OCHS) is reaffirming its commitment to accessible, comprehensive care for women across the Outer and Lower Cape. Women’s health services are available at all three OCHS locations in Harwich Port, Provincetown, and Wellfleet.

OCHS offers annual gynecological exams, age and history based preventive screenings such as breast and cervical cancer screenings, as well as HPV vaccinations. Services also include support for managing perimenopausal symptoms, nutritional counseling, and behavioral health care, including stress management.

The Provincetown Health Center features a state-of-the-art mammography suite with 3D imaging, improving early breast cancer detection, especially for women with dense breast tissue. Bone density screenings are also available at the Provincetown facility, helping to identify osteoporosis and assess fracture risk before symptoms appear. Exams are performed by experienced technologists, with results interpreted by Cape Cod Healthcare radiologists.

OCHS is also focused on women’s cardiovascular health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, though symptoms often diHer from those in men. Women may experience fatigue, nausea, or back pain instead of chest pain. OCHS oHers heart health screenings, nutritional counseling, and behavioral health services to support prevention and lifestyle changes.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, yet it remains largely preventable through education, regular screenings, and healthy lifestyle choices,” said Dr. Marie Constant, Chief Medical OHicer at OCHS. “At OCHS, we prioritize prevention and empower women to take control of their health.”

“Women’s health encompasses a wide range of care,” said Jodi Schwartz Belson, Certified Nurse-Midwife and Program Medical Director for Women’s Health Services at OCHS. “We support women through every stage of life – from prenatal and postnatal care to managing perimenopausal conditions.”

OCHS also offers the Women, Infants & Children (WIC) Food & Nutrition Program, providing nutrition consultations, breastfeeding support, and referrals. It collaborates with Helping Our Women (HOW), a local organization oHering services for women with chronic or serious conditions, including wellness education and transportation assistance.
