MARSHFIELD, MA, ISSUED DECEMBER 16, 2024… Several members supported by Road to Responsibility (RTR; http://roadtoresponsibility.org), one of the region’s largest and most successful nonprofit organizations supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently had the opportunity to experience the art of pizza-making firsthand, thanks to Andrew Maina, owner of Airport’s Pizza in Marshfield.  The event was also filmed as part of a new mobile cooking show program, filmed by RTR’s in-house content producers.

The lesson featured a special Holiday Pizza, topped with turkey, bacon, and served with cranberry sauce. RTR members assisted Maina from stretching the dough, to adding tomato sauce, to liberally sprinkling cheese and toppings.

Fresh from the oven, the delicious-looking pie was then sliced by RTR members under Maina’s watchful eye. The best part came next – devouring the savory treat.

RTR members also learned about the importance of customer service by answering the Airport’s Pizza phone and interacting with customers.

“A large shout out to Andrew for getting us into the holiday spirit,” said Christopher T. S. White, Ed. D., president and CEO of Road to Responsibility. “Not only was this a fun adventure for our members, it also allowed them to learn the process of making a pizza, safety in the kitchen, and the value of good customer service.”

“I enjoyed my visit with the RTR members and staff and would welcome them back to my kitchen anytime,” said Maina. “Their genuine interest in the preparation process made my day!”

Celebrating more than 35 years of making lives better, Road to Responsibility, Inc. (RTR) was established in 1988 with the overarching belief that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve to have full, rich, and rewarding lives in the community, and therefore works to provide the means, the opportunity, and the support necessary to allow citizens with disabilities to take their place as productive members of the community. RTR offers residential, work/employment, day habilitation and other day supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. RTR supports individuals with very diverse needs, including those with significant challenges who would otherwise go unserved if not for RTR. It succeeds where other organizations often fail, through the use of an integrated clinical behavioral approach. This model has proven successful and yielded positive results for the organization and the individuals served.
