The heat will be turned up on Saturday, June 21st as local chefs showcase their culinary skills in a high-stakes battle for the title of FOOD FIGHT Champion.
The South Shore Food Bank is serving up a first-of-its-kind fundraiser that promises to be deliciously epic! Centered around the theme “food brings people together,” FOOD FIGHT will pit budding and more seasoned local chefs against one another in a high-energy culinary showdown.
Inspired by the thrill of Food Network competitions, the high-energy cook-off will take place at Starland Sports Complex and Fun Park on Route 53 in Hanover on June 21st, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will not only spotlight the skill and creativity of regional cooks but also celebrate the rich and diverse culinary culture of the South Shore.
The fundraiser will be hosted by nationally recognized celebrity Chef Stephen Coe, a five-time “Chopped Champion” who has bested fellow celebrity Bobbie Flay twice! FOOD FIGHT competitors will face off for a chance to advance to the final round and challenge Chef Coe.
The FOOD FIGHT challenge will be judged by local culinary luminaries Paul Wahlberg, owner of Wahlburgers and Alma Nove; Laurie Hepworth, publisher of Edible Southeastern Massachusetts; Jose Durate, owner of Taranta in Boston, and Katelin Smith, Culinary Arts Program at Plymouth High School.
Competing for the title of FOOD FIGHT Champion will be restaurant chefs Dane Lane from The Tack Room, Doug Rodriguez from Osteria Vivo, Ethan Wyatt from Faces Brewing, Joshua Todisco from Rye Tavern, Daniel Burger from The Langham, and Joshua Campbell from Max Ultimate Food.
Food truck chefs will represent Lobsta Love, Artisan Pig, and Wicked Flavah.
The culinary competitors will shop for many of their ingredients from the “Feed the Wey” Food Pantry bus.
FOOD FIGHT sponsors to date are: Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Quincy Mutual Group, Stop & Shop, Walden Local, Edible Southeastern Massachusetts, National Grid, Gordon Food Service, St. Ours Clam Broth, Granite, Cape Cod 5 Bank, Sullivan Tire, Tiny & Sons, Coastal Heritage Bank, The Holland Companies, Abington Bank, MountainOne Bank, The Rug Merchant, Gale; Pipefitters Local 537, Sprinkler Fitters and Apprentices, Lansing Palmer, Bridgewater Farm Supply Co., and George Washington Toma TV and Appliance.
“FOOD FIGHT represents much more than a friendly competition – it will be a celebration of community, creativity, and the power of food to bring people together,” said Pamela Denholm, executive director of the South Shore Food Bank. “This event will showcase the incredible talent within the local culinary scene while supporting our mission to fight food insecurity in the South Shore.”
The day-long event will also feature a large vendor market, beer garden, kids zone with guest appearances from the Boston Bolts, and beloved mascots Wally the Green Monster from the Boston Red Sox, Smiley from Worcester Red Sox, Blades from Boston Bruins, and Pat the Patriot from New England Patriots. A photo booth, book signings, a silent auction, and more, means fun for the whole family. To purchase tickets, please visit: www.southshorefoodbank.org.
