Sundae School Ice Cream Celebrates 50 Years on Cape Cod with Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, June 14

Beloved Cape Cod ice cream shop to mark milestone with event, customer appreciation festivities and throwback pricing

Cape Cod, Mass. (May 28, 2026) – Sundae School Homemade Ice Cream, a Cape Cod tradition known for its fresh small-batch ice cream, old-fashioned parlor charm, and generations of loyal customers, will celebrate its 50th birthday with a special anniversary celebration on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 2 – 4 p.m. at its Harwich Port location at 606 Main Street.

In honor of the milestone anniversary, both the Harwich Port and the original Dennisport locations will offer throwback pricing on all small ice cream cones or cups with a choice of sprinkles for 76 cents from 2 – 4 PM (while supplies last).  The main celebration, commemorating its first year in business in 1976 and hosted in Harwich Port, will serve as a thank-you to the thousands of families, employees, and Cape Cod visitors who have made Sundae School part of their summer vacation traditions for five decades. Additional event details will be confirmed in the next few weeks.

“Reaching 50 years is an incredible milestone for any business. We are so fortunate to be a part of making lasting memories with our guests every day, all summer long, and it would not be possible without the generations of visitors who have made Sundae School part of their time here,” said Peter Gori, General Manager of Operations. “This celebration is our way of saying thank you to everyone who has stood in line for a scoop, stopped by after the beach, and, of course, we would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the thousands of young people who have worked behind the counter and helped make our ice cream.”

Sundae School first opened its doors in May 1976, when a young couple with a growing family set out to create a high-quality homemade ice cream shop that would allow them to continue to spend summers on Cape Cod.  From the beginning, the shop was rooted in family, community, and a commitment to making ice cream fresh daily in small batches.  In 1978, Sundae School moved into its current Dennisport location after renovating a historic barn, creating the nostalgic ice cream parlor experience customers still know today. The Harwich Port location opened in 1998 and quickly became a favorite stop for families, beachgoers, and visitors traveling throughout the Lower Cape.

Today, Sundae School continues to make its ice cream and frozen yogurt on the premises using high-quality ingredients, from pure vanilla extract and gourmet chocolate chips to fresh fruit and roasted nuts. The shop remains especially known for its famous hot fudge sundaes topped with real whipped cream and a fresh cherry, as well as its classic flavors, thick frappes, and soda floats, all in a quintessentially welcoming Cape Cod atmosphere.

As Sundae School celebrates its 50th year and looks ahead to its next chapter, the team also plans to extend its season in both locations on weekends into September and October, giving locals and visitors more time to enjoy the beloved Cape Cod staple. The signature quarts are also making a comeback in local grocery outlets in the coming weeks.

“As a Harwich resident and Cape native, I can’t think of a better place to celebrate this milestone than right here in Harwich Port, surrounded by the people who have made Sundae School part of their summer routine,” added Gori. “We’re encouraging those that have been a part of Sundae School’s history over the years to reach out, email us, stop by or message us on social media, because turning 50 is too big for just one afternoon, and we want to carry the excitement through the summer with our team, customers and everyone who has stopped by for a scoop over the last five decades.”
