NORWELL, MA, ISSUED JANUARY 3, 2025…South Shore Habitat for Humanity is joining Habitat for Humanity organizations around the globe in honoring the countless contributions President Jimmy Carter has made to the organization and to Habitat homeowners. He and Rosalynn Carter served as Habitat for Humanity’s most famous volunteers for over 35 years, helping to build affordable housing with the organization.

South Shore Habitat for Humanity invites the public to join them at one of the two following events to sign a memorial door, symbolic of the many doors opened by President Carter through his charitable work:

 1. Thursday, January 9, 2025 (1-2 pm; remarks at 1:15 pm): Location: United Church of Christ, Norwell, 460 Main St, Norwell, MA. South Shore Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1986 by members of the United Church of Christ in Norwell, in response to their neighborhood’s need for affordable housing and community support. While South Shore Habitat for Humanity is now part of Habitat for Humanity International, and no longer formally associated with the church, the affiliate is grateful for their support and long-term relationship. Members of their church, several of whom are still leading contributors to SSHH, met Jimmy Carter in 1986 at the founding of the organization. Leaders of the Church, including Pastor Leanne Walt, and SSHH Executive Director Erin McGough, will make remarks on the lawn at 1:15 pm.
2. Thursday, January 16, 2025 (2-6 pm): Location: Queset House – Ames Free Library, 51 Main St, North Easton, MA.  In partnership with the town of Easton and the Town of Easton’s Affordable Housing Trust, South Shore Habitat is working on a safe and affordable colonial style single-family home. In 2025, SSHH will also add another build project on Morse Road, in Easton. SSHH staff will be available to discuss the memorial and their work.

“We are so honored to hold these two events, one with our founding partner and one in Easton, the site of recent work for South Shore Habitat for Humanity,” said McGough.  “We offer a sincere thank you to our partners, the United Church of Christ in Norwell and the Ames Free Library, for providing space for this project, and look forward to providing an opportunity for the public to offer a sign of their gratitude and respect for such an amazing man.”
