January 8, 2025 (Cape Cod, MA) – The Cape Cod Technology Council has tapped federal IT consultant Michael White of Hyannis, as its new executive director. He succeeds Steve Smith of Orleans, who was hired at the beginning of 2023, replacing Bert Jackson who held the position since 2018.

“I am excited to share the great work being done by the Tech Council, including our First Fridays and educational programs while expanding more opportunities for local youth, college students, and municipalities to get involved with the Council,” said White.

“Michael is a perfect fit for the Tech Council as he not only works in technology, he is passionate about finding ways that innovations can be used to improve our lives and our community,” said Smith. “We look forward to Michael bringing his talents, expertise, and commitment to growing and evolving our organization.”

“Under Steve’s leadership, the Tech Council made some really good strides. He has been a true pleasure to work with and made the Tech Council into a better organization,” said the Council’s Board President Eugene Curry. “I’m looking forward to continuing that important work with Michael. He is so well-suited for this position because he not only has a background in technology but has held various leadership roles in the nonprofit sector.”

A former president of the Rotary Club of Hyannis, White was eager to focus his efforts on growing membership to expand the impact the Tech Council is having in the region. “I like membership because it creates a community,” he said. “Membership helps to pay for the quality of services and events that the Tech Council offers. You end up paying for those services collectively in order to learn, grow, meet like-minded people, and keep organizations like ours going.”

Having grown up on Cape Cod and graduated from Cape Cod Regional Technical School in 2008, he received his associate degree in information technology from Southern New Hampshire University in 2018. Last year, he was certified as a technical architect through ServiceNow, a designation that allows him to help enterprise organizations become more efficient by introducing workforce automations to their customer service offerings.

Volunteerism has been a large part of White’s life. Since last June, he has served on the School Committee for Cape Cod Regional Technical High School. Prior to that, he spent nine years as both chair of the General Program Advisory Committee and chair of the Information Technology Advisory Committee at the tech school.

His involvement at his alma mater occurred while operating his own IT consulting firm. “I wouldn’t have been able to start my own company if it wasn’t for the teachers I had in high school,” White said. “I felt an urge to give back to the school.”

His new position at the Council allows him to combine two interests he has long been passionate about – community involvement and technology. “I remember as a child, I wanted to start my own tech company and I called it, ‘Michael Works’ like Microsoft Works,” he said. “The Tech Council through its programming provides a very cool way for people to learn about new technologies and the advancements being made within a range of industries.”
