Employment Background Checks with Wendy Hansen, Atty, Foley and Foley Law

Like many other employment laws, this law is highly contested and incredibly state-specific. On top of that penalties for violations and litigation defense can be costly.

In this presentation we will discuss the benefits and drawbacks to doing background checks, the different types of checks and their purpose and legal implications and restrictions for employers.

Wendy Hansen Bio

Wendy brings a broad range of employment law skills to our team. She is the Practice Leader of the Employment Counsel On-Call Triage Service which services thousands of clients across the country. She has experience in handling a variety of questions and claims in employment law, including: FMLA, ADA, FLSA, criminal background checks, medical marijuana, wrongful termination, and harassment.

Wendy is the firm’s Organizational Restructure and Reduction in Force Practice Leader as well as the FMLA and State-Specific Leave Law subject matter expert. She is also the lead for the firm’s Education and Training Practice and has hosted and conducted hundreds of webinars to clients, covering topics and trainings for HR personnel; supervisors and mid-level managers; and standard employees.

During the course of her work at Foley & Foley Wendy has helped multiple employers through the firm’s Handbook Preparation Service and assisted with execution and implementation of legal compliance and best practice policies. She has specific experience working with the manufacturing industry and understands the important nuances within the industry that intersect with employment law.

Wendy has experience both as a Human Resources Manager and as a litigator at an insurance defense law firm in Boston. She has taught legal compliance and leadership training. She has drafted and implemented a framework for a new Human Resources department as a Human Resources Manager. She has also worked with employers under their employment practice liability insurance on a variety of claims, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination.
