Describe in detail the culture of the company and a recent experience supporting that.
Habitat Cape Cod has a true Team culture; you will never hear someone say "that isn't my job." We have weekly staff meetings where we start by sharing something we are grateful for in our lives. We celebrate birthdays, and anniversaries, and support each other during difficult times too. This is true for staff and volunteers. ReStore staff will jump in and help out with fundraising events. Office staff will take turns bringing snacks to volunteers on the job sites and throwing surprise birthday parties. We make sure to take care of delivery people too, especially in the summer. We always keep popsicles in the freezer, water in the cooler, and the candy bowl full to keep them running. Also, to help keep the ReStore staff and the office staff connected, we are going to start having Trivia Nights rotating between the ReStores so we can all spend a fun time together and support each other.
Has the company/organization offered rewards or incentives for great customer service or a positive employee attitude?
A positive employee attitude is rewarded with staff outings, office massages, merchandise, closing the office early on Fridays in the summer, and flexibility with work schedules as needed. During staff meetings, people will be recognized for their outstanding efforts.
Does the organization offer training for levels of advancement? Is there room for growth?
Habitat Cape Cod offers employees internal training and will fund external workshops/classes too. There is definitely room for growth in the ReStores and in the office. Just recently the Director of Resource Development was promoted to President & CEO and the Office Manager became the COO. Habitat International also hosts every April a convention in Atlanta and staff are encouraged to attend.
Does this organization promote from within, or hire outside when looking for employees?
Habitat Cape Cod both promotes from within, as I mentioned above and we are always looking to hire from outside as we continue to grow. We've recently had a staff member leave and be promoted from within at the Yarmouth ReStore for some positions while also hiring from outside for other positions.
Provide an example of how this organization has recently gone above and beyond for an employee, team or client/customer.
We threw a surprise birthday party for a long-time volunteer who was turning 85. We coordinated with his wife to make sure he was on the job site on a particular Saturday. We reached out to current and past volunteers who have worked with him and invited them to come to the site and surprise him. Between staff and volunteers, we had nearly 50 people show up to enjoy a catered lunch and cake, tell fun stories and sing happy birthday. The best part was he was truly surprised!
Communication is key, how effective is the organization at communication with their employees and/or client/customer? *
Internal communication is great as we utilize weekly staff meetings, bi-weekly emails from HR, email, phone, and intercom systems between the office and the two ReStores. We also utilize emails and print pieces to our volunteers and donors to keep them up to date too.
In what ways does the organization give back to their community? Please provide an example.
Habitat Cape Cod is lucky that our mission is to support the local community by building affordable homes alongside homebuyers and volunteers. We help local families stay on Cape Cod and give volunteers a way to connect and stay active too. We enjoy working with so many other non-profit organizations and schools to assist as many people as possible. We also protect our environment through the ReStores collecting and selling used household items instead of them ending up in landfills. Our homes are built using green building practices and installing solar panels on the homes to give access to clean energy to low-income families.
Are you actively hiring/recruiting outside your organization?
