MARSHFIELD, MA, ISSUED NOVEMBER 1, 2024… Road to Responsibility (RTR)http://roadtoresponsibility.org), one of the region’s largest and most successful nonprofit organizations supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, has announced the opening of its 50th residential program.

The new Marshfield location had previously served as a state-operated group home but has been vacant in recent years. Use of the property was transferred to RTR when an acute need for a fully accessible home arose.

The single floor home will house five people who have been living in different RTR homes that no longer meet their needs due to changing physical abilities.  In turn, these moves will open up opportunities for others desperately needing homes.

Similar to other RTR residential programs, the Marshfield home will offer a supportive environment with a wide range of services and 24-hour staffing.

Program members who are being moved to the Marshfield residential home will be joined by the same staff that have worked with them for years. As such, these employees will change their job location to the new residential program to allow for continuity of care.

“We are thrilled to announce the opening of our 50th residential program,” said Christopher T. S. White, Ed. D., president and CEO of Road to Responsibility. “And we are equally delighted that staff currently working with those members who will move to the new program have so lovingly offered to change job locations. It speaks volumes about the care and devotion delivered to those we serve each and every day.

“RTR is deeply grateful to the state for this home and the chance to expand residential opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities on the South Shore!” White added.

Celebrating more than 35 years of making lives better, Road to Responsibility, Inc. (RTR) was established in 1988 with the overarching belief that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve to have full, rich, and rewarding lives in the community, and therefore works to provide the means, the opportunity, and the support necessary to allow citizens with disabilities to take their place as productive members of the community. RTR offers residential, work/employment, day habilitation and other day supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. RTR supports individuals with very diverse needs, including those with significant challenges who would otherwise go unserved if not for RTR. It succeeds where other organizations often fail, through the use of an integrated clinical behavioral approach. This model has proven successful and yielded positive results for the organization and the individuals served.
