MARSHFIELD, MA, ISSUED JANUARY 30, 2025… Road to Responsibility (RTR), one of the region’s largest and most successful nonprofit organizations supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is delighted to announce that one of its members who was featured in the photography exhibit “Unmasked Gallery: A Celebration of Autism and Neurodiversity” last spring was recently presented with a framed photograph from exhibit photographer and Marshfield resident Kaitlyn Litchfield.
David, who began receiving services from RTR’s Taunton location in 2023, was an enthusiastic participant in the April 2024 exhibit, donations to which benefited The Flutie Foundation for Autism. “Unmasked Gallery: A Celebration of Autism and Neurodiversity” aimed to challenge perceptions and celebrate the beauty of neurodiversity. A large number of RTR staff attended the exhibit to support David, who along with his mother, took immense pride in the recognition.
David’s gallery photograph – a copy of which is now proudly displayed in his home – highlights his culinary skills and captures him in a commercial kitchen, lifting a large pot with an equally large smile on his face.
“When creating the Unmasked Project, I knew I wanted to showcase stories that reveal strength, resilience, and authenticity,” said Litchfield. “David embodies all of that and more. As someone who is autistic, his journey highlights the importance of embracing neurodiversity and breaking down stereotypes. His story is a powerful reminder of the beauty in being unfiltered and unapologetically yourself, and I couldn’t imagine a better fit for this project. His voice has the power to inspire and connect us all.”
“I have been significantly more vocational since this event,” added David. “So now I feel I have the greatest purpose. Not just to achieve the American Dream, but to inspire others to do the same, that is my purpose.”
“We are incredibly proud of David and his participation in the ‘Unmasked Gallery’ exhibit,” said Christopher T. S. White, Ed. D., president and CEO of Road to Responsibility. “His photograph embodies the spirit of our mission to celebrate and support the unique abilities of all individuals.”
The inaugural “Unmasked Gallery: A Celebration of Autism and Neurodiversity” exhibit was so well received that Litchfield will bring the show back for a second time – this year on April 5th at Stellwagen Brewery in Marshfield.
