ROCKLAND, WEYMOUTH, ISSUED DECEMBER 20, 2024… The South Shore Food Bank, working in partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank to improve food access on the South Shore, help address food equity across towns, and help make fresh options more readily available to families relaying on food pantries to meet their needs, is currently seeking “Giving Tuesday and All Season Long” donations through December 31st.
A South Shore Food Bank volunteer who is strongly committed to the organization’s mission and is aware of the impact it makes has pledged to match every dollar donated up to $10,000.
“Our volunteers are so generous with their time and are truly critical to advancing our mission, and to say we are grateful to this volunteer for their pledge to match donations is a huge understatement,” said Pamela Denholm, executive director of the South Shore Food Bank. “Every dollar we receive goes directly to our mission to bring food, dignity, and hope to our neighbors – let’s make this holiday a little warmer for our South Shore families, by putting food on the table.”
Denholm noted that with the exorbitant cost of living, increased grocery prices, and the end of pandemic-era supports in 2023, The Greater Boston Food Bank reports 1 in 3 households with children in Massachusetts suffer from child-level food insecurity, meaning a child went hungry, skipped a meal or didn’t eat for an entire day because there wasn’t enough money for food.
