Wellfleet S.P.A.T. has officially launched plans for OysterFest 2023, with a celebratory return to Main Street, endorsed by and in collaboration with the Town of Wellfleet.
Wellfleet S.P.A.T. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve, protect and promote Wellfleet’s shellfishing industry and legacy through education, events, and support for the shellfishing community and local community at large.
The OysterFest is the organization’s largest event. Sponsorship opportunities include helping with a zero plastic ‘Fest, shell recycling, sponsoring the famous Shuck-Off Competition, the Kids’ Tent, or other parts of the weekend-long celebration. Last year, S.P.A.T. partnered with We Need A Vacation, a platform enabling local homeowners to list their homes for visitors. Together with We Need A Vacation, S.P.A.T. donated $2,500 (part of the sponsorship) to Wellfleet’s Affordable Housing Trust.
“We Need A Vacation is a thoughtful sponsor, and they are mindful of the Cape’s housing crisis. In collaboration with S.P.A.T., they wanted to be mindful of this when talking about how to show up at the ‘Fest. Donating part of their sponsorship to this organization for us was just a start of new ways that S.P.A.T. can collaborate on sponsorships and in turn help the community while we celebrate at OysterFest,” said Nancy O’Connell, president of S.P.A.T.
In addition to sponsorship opportunities, Wellfleet S.P.A.T. is promoting its membership program and is planning tours of local oyster grants all summer. To learn more about grant tours, community members and visitors can contact shellfishfarmtours@wellfleetspat.org.
“We genuinely want this organization to be able to give back to the community in relevant and meaningful ways. We welcome feedback, and especially welcome help from community members as we continue to plan for events and ways to give back,” said O’Connell.
