Due to the economic impact brought on by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Cape Cod Sea Camps has made the decision to permanently cease its business operations, the organization’s ownership group and board of directors announced today.
Closed in 2020 due to public health restrictions, Cape Cod Sea Camps will not reopen in 2021 and has now begun the process of winding down its operations. In the coming weeks, all campers who made deposits and tuition payments toward 2020 and 2021 activities will be contacted and their payments refunded in full.
Staff, campers and alumni were informed of this decision during a series of meetings and email communications throughout the day on Monday.
“This was an exceedingly difficult decision to make, and the result is understandably heartbreaking for our owners, our board of directors and our entire camp family,” said Cape Cod Sea Camps spokesperson Jim Fleet. “Unfortunately, after long discussions and a comprehensive analysis of the pandemic’s impact on our long-term financial situation, it became painfully clear that closing our Camp was the only responsible course of action.”
Established in 1922 and located on 60 acres of pristine beachfront property, Cape Cod Sea Camps is well-known as one of the longest-running and most iconic camping communities in the world. The business has been owned and operated by the same family since its inception and has provided more than 1400 campers every year with a unique camping experience on the shores of Cape Cod Bay.

Under her committed leadership, this special place has made remarkable, life-enduring differences in the lives of tens of thousands of campers, counselors and staff members who have elected to spend their summers with us over the years.”
Cape Cod Sea Camps’ Delahanty Family and Board of Directors are currently exploring options for the future of the Camp’s beachfront property. For the time being, the organization will continue employing a small staff to maintain the grounds and facilities.
