PLYMOUTH and CARVER, MA, ISSUED SEPTEMBER 23, 2024 – Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth (HFHGP) is thrilled to announce its upcoming Volunteer Kickoff event, scheduled for Wednesday, October 16th, at 5:30 p.m. at the New World Tavern, 56 Main Street in Plymouth. This free and casual event promises to be an enjoyable social gathering aimed at igniting the spirit of community and camaraderie among volunteers, fostering connections, and fueling anticipation for Habitat’s current and upcoming build projects.
Open to anyone interested, this Volunteer Kickoff is a great opportunity to get involved and learn more about Habitat’s mission.
“Volunteers are the heart and soul of Habitat for Humanity. Their dedication and generosity make it possible for us to build homes, hope, and brighter futures for families in need,” said Amy Belmore, executive director of HFHGP. “With a new home build kicking off this fall, we are hoping to encourage more individuals to grab a hammer or make a lunch and get involved. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference and is deeply valued.”
At the October 16th event, attendees will hear from HFHGP Executive Director Amy Belmore and Volunteer Manager Lynn Vecchi McManus about the various ways in which individuals can contribute to Habitat’s mission. One of the main projects underway with HFHGP is a new home build at 597 Wareham Rd, Plymouth; this property is now under the ownership of HFHGP and will become a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom home.
Volunteers of all skill levels are essential to building a home with Habitat for Humanity and there are opportunities for everyone to make a meaningful contribution. Skilled tradespeople like carpenters, electricians, and plumbers are always needed to guide critical tasks, but so are general volunteers who can help with framing, painting, landscaping, and other hands-on activities. No construction experience is necessary; Habitat’s Construction Director trains all volunteers on the tasks at hand for each shift.
Additionally, volunteers who can assist with logistics, serve meals to the crew, or organize supplies are also crucial to keeping the project running smoothly. Every helping hand counts in building a strong, safe home for a deserving family.
