ORLEANS, MA (September 26, 2024) –The Lower Cape Outreach Council (LCOC) announced that more than 350 runners have already registered for the 20th Chatham Turkey Trot to benefit the organization on Thanksgiving Day. Registration is currently $35 for runners and walkers. New this year: runners and walkers can also register to fundraise for the LCOC as part of their Turkey Trot participation. All live runners/walkers who register by October 25 will also receive a free, collectible race t-shirt. Runner registration increases to $45 on November 4.

Founded in 2005 by Chatham residents Linda Redding and Mary Parsons to benefit LCOC, the Chatham Turkey is now managed by LCOC staff and volunteers. It attracts up to 2,500 participants to downtown Chatham for the 5k (3.1 mile) route, with hundreds more spectators looking on.

“LCOC is honored to continue this successful event on the most thankful day of the year,” according to Katie Wibby, Chief Executive Officer of LCOC. “The overwhelming support of the community is always so inspiring to our staff, volunteers, clients, and board of directors.”

2024 Sponsorship Opportunities are available to both businesses and private individuals ranging from $250 to $5,000, with the highest palladium level giving exclusive rights to call the Turkey Trot start.

“Sponsorships help to defray event expenses and ensure that all proceeds go directly to programs and services needed by our clients,” added Wibby. “The assistance LCOC provides today to more than 4,500 clients helps them to afford to live, work, and stay on Cape Cod. It also helps to retain many of these individuals in the year-round workforce despite a high cost of living.”

2024 Turkey Trot proceeds will fund stock for its nine emergency food pantries in each Lower and Outer Cape town, a financial assistance program, and Katy’s Korner—a free clothing and home goods center in Orleans. In addition, LCOC also hosts a Thanksgiving Turkey and Fixings program which assisted 632 households in 2023, and Santa Stop, a holiday toy distribution that gifted items to 527 children last year.

2024 Chatham Turkey Trot Sponsors to date include Cape Cod 5, Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club, Cape Cod’s X 102.3 and 106.5 FM, The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, Cape Dreams, La Tanzi, Spaulding & Landreth, Cape Associates, Kerry Insurance Agency, Pine Acres Realty/Compass, W.
