The foregoing was accomplished while maintaining Nantucket’s ascendancy as a top choice regional, domestic and international destination.
After this portion of the program, all will adjourn to The Harborview Room & Terrace, the crown jewel of the Dreamland Theater. Here annual awards will be conferred to the individuals and businesses named below.
Nantucket Chamber, its directors, staff, and members will recognize the Small Business of the Year (Lemon Press on Main Street); Volunteer of the Year (Marsha Egan, chair of the new Chamber Education Committee); Tourism Advocate of the Year (Liz Holland of Hy-Line Cruises, a departing board member); and will present the 2018 Achievement of Merit Award (Community Service Award – Margot Hartmann, MD, PhD, current CEO, Nantucket Cottage Hospital, who will retire after overseeing the construction and launch of the new NCH campus).
“As head of the Chamber for two years, I have a far greater appreciation for the deep sense of community on Nantucket,” said CEO David Martin. “In addition to the Chamber’s accomplishments, made possible through its members, we celebrate these award winners as community leaders whose selfless good deeds and endeavors make a difference. Nantucket is one of the world’s leading destinations and an idyllic place to live, work and play. The Chamber’s perspective is viewed through multiple lenses — one which supports and promotes island businesses and another which markets and publicizes Nantucket as a high value destination to audiences near and far — regionally, domestically and internationally — through partnerships with Mass Office of Travel & Tourism, Discover New England, Brand USA and the island’s partner airlines, sea carriers, lodging, dining, its arts and cultural assets and ancillary and supporting businesses. We thank each and of you for placing your trust in the Chamber,” he continued.”
The Nantucket brand grew stronger this year as additional air carriers chose Nantucket to widen their destination offerings. The island is in the media practically daily not only for tourism, but also for the high value lifestyle island living affords. Its real estate market is one of the strongest and most desirable anywhere due to its peerless architecture and the enviable Nantucket lifestyle. The island is experiencing increasing domestic and global media attention and tourist visitation, an enviable reputation as America’s most beautifully preserved seaport, an incomparable venue for affluent international apparel and other brands, island art & culture, and ascendancy as a historical and recreational icon. All of these have captured the imaginations of visitors, the media, prospective residents and prospective businesses.
