Amazing Grace Of Cape Cod Celebrates 10 Years, Reopens Camper And Mentor Applications

Amazing Grace Cape Cod is hosting its 10th Anniversary Celebration and Open House on Sunday, May 7, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Camp Burgess, 75 Stowe Road, Sandwich.

Activities will include boating and swimming at the waterfront, a climbing wall, outdoor games, food, a special visit from the Cotuit Center’s Art Bus, and the premier of Amazing Grace’s 10th Anniversary video montage created by three teenagers who have participated in the program.

The day celebrates the organization’s work to break the cycle of family incarceration and the children affected by incarceration, who are typically six times more likely to go to prison than their peers.

Amazing Grace has supported 77 children from 66 families affected by family incarceration since 2014. The program begins with participation in AGI, a no-cost, one-week residential camp experience at Camp Burgess in Sandwich for children ages 8 through 11. The program continues with a pathway of programs that has expanded as children have matured. Currently there are four week-long camp programs (AGI, ages 8-11; AGII, ages 12-15; Mentors-In-Training, age 16; and Junior Mentors, age 17) plus year-round activities and enrichment programs.

Mentor applications for persons 18 years and older to share their passions and skills with Amazing Grace’s “Amazing Kids” are also being accepted. Application forms can be found at http://amazinggracecapecod.org

Applications for children ages 8-11 as well as for mentors (18 years and older) are still being accepted.  For more information, contact Kim Engle, Program/Camp Director at 617-529-1750 or Julie Lytle, Executive Director at 617-669-8411 or Amazinggracecapecod@gmail.com
