(MASHPEE, MA) – The 23rd edition of the Seaside Le Mans – The Race for the Cape Cod Community, raised $300,000 on Saturday September 07, 2024, at Mashpee Commons for five Cape Cod non-profit organizations. The inaugural running of the Seaside Le Mans – The Race for the Cape Cod Community, took place in 2001, just four days after the terrorist attacks of September Eleventh.
DeWitt Davenport, CEO of The Davenport Companies, and founder of the Seaside Le Mans, said that first race, which took place amid the sorrow of Nine Eleven, helped provide a rallying call for Cape Cod to stand strong in times of adversity.
“It was about unity for our community in that first year. We ran the race, and we were propelled because we had an opportunity to thank the first responders,” said Davenport.
Since then, the race has grown in the number of sponsors, drivers, and spectators.
Bourne resident and 9th District Congressman William Keating (D), who has served as the race’s Grand Marshal for several years in a row, praised Davenport for continuing the tradition for more than two decades, and growing the race each year.
Keating recognized the five 2024 beneficiaries for all the work they do to improve the lives of Cape Cod residents and urged the racers, sponsors, and spectators to embrace the unity that Seaside Le Manscreates and bring it back to their own communities.
“Remember the fact that there are an overwhelming number of fundamental reasons that we should come together in unity, and only a few secondary issues that divide us. Let’s work to keep us together,” said Keating, who stressed that the Seaside Le Mans shows how a community can rally together.
The Davenport Companies underwrites the entire cost of the event and works in partnership with The Cape Cod Foundation to manage the sponsorship donations. Every dollar raised goes directly to the charities.
