Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth has received a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) in its annual quality and safety assessment of more than 4,500 hospitals across the country. These ratings are based on several consumer engagement and care quality criteria, including the effectiveness of a plan’s chronic disease management services, the quality of customer service, and how well a health plan handles customer appeals.
“This achievement reflects our high standards for patient care and our continued commitment to providing outstanding care,” says BID – Plymouth President Kevin Coughlin. “Every staff member, regardless of their position, believes in advocating for the patient, looking for process improvement opportunities, and providing the best possible patient care.”
BID – Plymouth was ranked above average in mortality and safety of care. The CMS rating system is publicly reported and helps guide patients as they select where to receive their health care. CMS calculates the rating by including information on mortality, safety of care, readmissions, patient satisfaction, quality measures, claims data and timeliness of care. Those numbers are then calculated in order to assign the star rating. The most common overall hospital ratings are 3-4 stars.
