Michaela Herlihy and her colleagues at Beacon Financial Planning of Cape Cod, Inc. have been awarded the 2020 Tony & Lorraine Shepley Award from Calmer Choice.
The award is in recognition of their unwavering support of the Calmer Choice mindfulness programs that serve the communities of Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts.
Herlihy is president of and leads an all-female staff. The company offers fee-only financial planning services to more than 300 households, monitoring more than $200,000,000 of assets.
The Tony & Lorraine Shepley Award was first presented in 2017 to honor local businesspeople who stepped forward early in the organization’s beginnings to help “build a village” before many others recognized value in the organization’s importance to the community. Past recipients include Cape Air, Shepley Wood Products and Cape Associates.
Herlihy served on the Calmer Choice Board of Directors for seven years. In that role, she championed the organization’s participation in the Tour de Barnstable fundraiser for years, raising $133,000 to support Calmer Choice programs within schools and the community. In 2014, Herlihy was recognized by Cape & Plymouth Business Magazine as one of the top 40 professionals under the age of 40. She is a graduate and former board member of Leadership Cape Cod and is an active member of the finance committee of WE CAN.
Calmer Choice partners with schools and community organizations across Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts to deliver an evidence-based prevention program that equips children with a suite of skills to increase inner resilience, reduce the impact of stress, manage emotional responses, learn self-control and increase their sense of well-being. The goal is to provide skills that can diminish the risk of violence, substance abuse and other self-destructive behaviors.
