HYANNIS — Cape Cod 5 has announced a three-year strategic partnership with EVERFI, Inc., an international technology company focused on driving social change and financial wellness through education and the establishment of critical life skills. Through this new partnership, the bank will make available at no cost, three interactive, video-based EVERFI education courses geared towards middle and/or high school students, two of which focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Cape Cod 5 is the first bank in the country to offer sponsorship of one of these courses, “Diversity Foundations,” which is geared toward high school students. All three EVERFI educational courses will be offered to schools in the communities served by the bank on the Cape and Islands and in Southeastern Massachusetts. School administrators will be contacted and informed of how they can take advantage of this program.

“Increasing access to these essential, educational resources is one part of the bank’s long-standing commitment to creating an equitable, inclusive culture that celebrates all types of diversity throughout our organization and the communities we serve,” noted Dorothy A. Savarese, chair and CEO of Cape Cod 5.

As an additional component of this strategic partnership, Cape Cod 5 is encouraging local high-school students in the community, ages 13 to 18, to join the cost-free EVERFI Black History Month Challenge. Students who participate in this national, month-long challenge will complete four digital lessons focused on understanding the Black experience and write a capstone essay, in which they will share how they plan to continue the conversation about Black history in their communities throughout the year. Submission of these essays will enable the student to compete for college scholarships awarded by EVERFI and educational stipends offered locally by Cape Cod 5.

Upon completion of the Black History Month Challenge, three students will be selected by EVERFI to win one of three college scholarships of $10,000, $6,000 and $4,000, respectively. As a unique addition to this challenge, Cape Cod 5 will award five Honorable Mention educational stipends in the amount of $500 to local students, identified by EVERFI as semi-finalists. A panel of Cape Cod 5 judges will select the five Honorable Mention educational stipend winners drawn from a pool of local students. Students must enter via the Bank’s website using the link below to qualify for one of the five $500 scholarships from Cape Cod 5.
