Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance To Host Free Fishermen Training Program

Cape Cod Commercial Fishermen’s Alliance will host a free Fishermen Training Program to introduce new and beginning fishermen to fishing careers on Cape Cod.

This is the second grant-funded training held by the Fishermen’s Alliance to match qualified applicants with a growing number of opportunities.

Participants will go through one day of fisheries training with experienced captains and one day of safety training. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a safety training certificate and gift card to Cape Fishermen’s Supply.

The program will run Saturday, Nov. 6,  from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by an optional fishing boat tour, and Sunday, Nov. 7, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Day 1, held at the Fishermen’s Alliance office in Chatham, will give an overview of local fisheries from experienced captains (scallop, lobster, groundfish, conch, skate, dogfish, monkfish, shellfish and more), job expectations, and basic knot tying. The second day, held at the Fishermen’s Alliance office and Stage Harbor, Chatham, will cover at-sea safety information and practical training, for which participants will receive certification. Lunch is included both days.
